Add a device model the library does not have yet. It is your company's own at once, ready to use on the equipment form, and you can submit it to the library for everyone later.

Overview

A device model you add is seen only by your company until you submit it and TekStacks support accepts it. You can edit it as often as you like while it is your own. Enter it as the maker lists it: the fields are strict so the library stays clean.

Requirements

• Role: Add equipment. Admin, Manager and Technician have it by default.

Steps

1. In the sidebar, open Device library, All device models.
2. Click Add a device model.
3. Fill in the device model:
   • Make: pick it from the list of known makes.
   • Model: as printed on the equipment. Letters and digits, with spaces, dots, dashes, slashes, plus or brackets.
   • Part number (optional).
   • Type: required.
   • Rack height in whole or half units. Leave it empty for equipment that does not go in a rack.
   • Depth: Full depth or Half depth.
   • PoE budget, Typical draw and Maximum draw, in watts.
   • Details for the type you picked, such as a camera's form factor and lenses.
   • Other names: names it is also sold under, as printed. Up to 10.
   • Datasheet: the maker's https page with these details, so others can check them.
   • Ports: click Add ports for each group, with How many, Type, Speed and PoE.
4. Save.

TekStacks confirms that the device model was "added for your company". It shows in the library with the status Your company's, and the equipment form offers it like any other device model.

Editing your own device model

Click Edit on its row. You can edit a device model while it is Your company's or Turned down. Once it is submitted, it cannot be edited until it is turned down.

Sharing it with every company

Click Submit to the library on its row. See Library submissions.

Troubleshooting

"This device model is already in the library." The library or your company already has a device model with this make and model, or with this model as one of its other names. Search for it and use that entry.

The make I need is not in the list. Ask TekStacks support to add it, from Help and feedback in your profile menu. See Help and feedback.

"Use the maker's https page for this device model." The datasheet link must start with https://.

"During the free trial a company can add or suggest 20 device models a day." Trials have a daily limit on device models added plus fixes suggested. Try again tomorrow, or choose a plan.

"A device model lists at most 1024 ports." Check the port counts in each group.

Can other companies see a device model I add? Not until you submit it and TekStacks support accepts it. See Library submissions.

Can I use my device model on equipment before it is in the library? Yes. It works on the equipment form as soon as you add it.
