Appearance
The search box at the top of every page finds equipment by its tag or serial number, and everything else by name. A handheld scanner or your phone's camera works in it too.
Overview
Type or scan into Search or scan a tag and press Enter:
- If one piece of equipment has that asset tag or serial number, its page opens straight away.
- If several do, TekStacks lists them so you can pick one.
- Otherwise you see results grouped by kind: Equipment, Employees, Locations, Documentation, Files, Changes, Network, Services, Software, Contacts, Vendors and Warranty contracts. You only see the groups your role and plan allow.
A Dell express service code finds the equipment with the matching service tag.
The Search page (Assets, then Search in the sidebar) has the same box on a full page.
Requirements
- Role: any user can search. Each group of results needs permission to see that kind of record.
Steps
Search with a handheld scanner
- Click in the search box at the top of the page.
- Scan the barcode or QR code on the label. Most scanners press Enter for you.
Scan with your phone's camera
- On your phone, tap the camera button beside the search box.
- Allow the camera when your browser asks.
- Point it at the barcode or QR code.
A TekStacks QR label opens the equipment straight away. Anything else read by the camera is searched for, never opened as a link.
Add equipment that is not found
When nothing has that tag or serial, click Add equipment tagged and the code to open the add form with the tag filled in. See Adding equipment.
Notes
Note: The camera reads the picture on your phone. No video is sent to TekStacks.
Note: If you manage clients, a tag or serial found at another client opens that equipment and switches you to its client.
Troubleshooting
"The scanner has not loaded." Close the tab and open TekStacks again.
The camera button is missing. It shows on touch screens only. On a computer, use a handheld scanner or type the code.
"Nothing matches ..." Check the code for typos. Tags and serials must match exactly.
