Appearance
A tag series describes a run of asset tags so TekStacks can number them for you, or check and count a batch of labels you bought. A series is never required: tags can always be typed or scanned freely.
Overview
There are two kinds:
- Numbered by TekStacks: TekStacks hands out the next number when you add equipment and prints the label.
- Pre-printed labels from a vendor: a roll or a stack of sheets you bought. You scan or type each tag as you use it, and TekStacks checks it belongs to the batch and shows how many are left.
The list shows each series' Next or left (the next tag, or how many labels are left), its Range, who it is Handed to, and whether it is Active, Used up or Archived. A pre-printed batch is marked Running low when fewer than ten, or less than a tenth, are left.
Requirements
- Role: Manage tag series. By default Admin and Manager have it.
Steps
Create a series
- Open Configure, then Tag series.
- Click New series.
- Choose the kind under Tags.
- Fill in:
- Name, such as Main office labels.
- Prefix, Digits and Suffix. With prefix
IT-and 5 digits, tags readIT-00001. The form shows the first tag as you type. - First number.
- Last number: the last label in the batch for a pre-printed series, or blank for no end on a numbered one.
- Handed to (optional): a user whose add equipment form suggests this series.
- Save.
Take the next number when adding equipment
On the Add equipment form, choose the series under Tag series and leave Asset tag blank. The field shows Next from series, and the next number is taken when you save. See Adding equipment.
Hand out parts of a pre-printed batch
- On a pre-printed series, click Hand out tags.
- Click Hand out a range, then choose who it goes To, the First and Last numbers, and an optional Note such as Sheet 3.
- Add more ranges as needed and save.
Each person's add equipment form shows the tags they have left. Anyone can still use any tag.
Archive a series
Click the archive icon and confirm. It stops being offered when adding equipment; tags already used stay on their equipment.
Notes
Note: A typed or scanned tag that looks like it belongs to a series is checked against that series' range.
Note: The kind and first number are fixed once a series is created.
Note: If you manage clients, each client has its own tag series. Create one while working in that client.
Troubleshooting
"Two ranges overlap." Two handed out ranges share a number. Change one so they do not overlap.
"The ... series is used up." Every number in the series has been used. Raise its Last number, or create a new series.
"... is outside the ... series." The tag matches the series' format but its number is not in the range. Check the label.
FAQ
