Appearance
Share a file or snippet with someone who does not sign in to TekStacks, through a link that expires or that you turn off.
Overview
A file has one share link at a time. Anyone with the link can open it without signing in until it expires or is turned off. A shared snippet opens as a read only page with Raw, Copy and Download for each file; a shared upload downloads straight away.
The file's page shows the link under Sharing, who made it and when, when it stops working, and how many times it was opened. Admins also see each open: when, how (viewed, downloaded or raw text), the IP address and the browser. Every open is also in the activity log.
Requirements
- Role: Upload, edit, share and delete files (Admin, Manager and Technician by default). Seeing the list of opens needs See the activity log (Admin only).
Steps
Share a file
- Open the file or snippet and click Share.
- Under Works for, choose One day, A week, A month or Until turned off.
- Click Submit. "Share link ready" appears.
- Under Sharing, click Copy and send the link.
Replace or turn off a link
- New link makes a fresh link. The current one stops working at once.
- Turn off stops the link. Anyone using it gets a not found page. You can make a new link at any time.
Notes
Note: Archiving a file stops its link working, and the Share button is hidden while it is archived. Deleting a file turns its link off for good.
Note: A link works only on your company's own TekStacks address.
Troubleshooting
"This link has expired or was turned off." The link passed its Works for time, was replaced with New link, was turned off, or the file was archived or deleted. Make a new link.
I cannot see Share. Your role cannot share files, or the file is archived.
