Locations are where equipment lives and where people work: offices, branches, closets, a warehouse, or Remote. Each location has its own page listing the people and equipment there.

Overview

Equipment and employees each pick a location, and Check in asks where equipment is going back to. The Locations list shows how much Equipment each location holds and whether it is Active or Archived.

Click a location to open its page:

  • People: current employees who work there, with their job title and department.
  • Equipment: equipment kept there and who holds it.
  • A Network panel with the location's subnets, VLANs, circuits and racks, its Rooms and racks, and a diagram drawn from them. See Sites and rooms.
  • Documentation pages and changes that mention it.

Requirements

  • Role: Manage statuses, locations, departments, vendors and custom fields to add and change locations. By default Admin, Manager and Technician have it. Anyone who can see equipment or employees can open a location's page.

Steps

Add a location

  1. Open Configure, then Locations.
  2. Click Add location.
  3. Type the name and save.

You can also add one from the Location drop down on the equipment form.

Rename or archive a location

On the location's row, click the edit icon to rename it, or the archive icon to archive it. An archived location stops being offered; whatever already uses it keeps it. Use the Archived filter to see archived ones, and click Restore to bring one back.

Notes

Note: If you manage clients, each client has its own locations. Add a location while working in that client; Add location is hidden in the all clients view.

Note: Locations are never deleted, so equipment and history that name one keep its name.

Troubleshooting

"That is already on the list." A location with that name exists. Check the Archived filter if you cannot see it, and restore it.
