Appearance
Serve TekStacks at an address your company owns, such as assets.yourcompany.com. TekStacks checks your DNS and handles the certificate.
Overview
Your account always works at its TekStacks address, such as yourcompany.tekstacks.com. A custom domain adds a second address of your own. You add two DNS records where your domain is hosted; TekStacks checks them every few minutes, then has the certificate issued and renewed for you. Once it works, you can make it the main address that links, emails and labels use.
Each account has one custom domain.
Requirements
- Role: Admin (Company settings, custom domain and storage, which only the Admin role has).
- Access to the DNS for your domain.
- A subdomain, such as
assets.,it.orequipment.. The bare domain (yourcompany.com) cannot be used.
Step 1: Set up the domain
- In the sidebar, open Administration, then Custom domain.
- Under Set up a custom domain, enter the Custom domain, such as
assets.yourcompany.com, and click Continue.
Step 2: Add the DNS records
- The page now shows your domain. Under Verify your domain are two records, each with a Copy button:
- a CNAME record that sends the hostname to your account, and
- a TXT record that proves the domain is yours.
- Add both where your domain's DNS is hosted.
Note: Some DNS hosts add your domain to the name for you. If so, enter only the part before it.
Step 3: Wait for it to work
TekStacks checks every few minutes for a day, and about every 30 seconds while the page is open. Click Check now to check at once. The status beside your domain goes from Waiting for DNS to Issuing certificate to Working. You are emailed when the domain works.
Step 4: Make it the main address (optional)
Under Main address, click Make it the main address. To switch back, click Use followed by your TekStacks address.
Links, emails and labels then use your domain instead of your TekStacks address. Both addresses keep working.
Notes
Note: Passkeys belong to your
tekstacks.comaddress. On your own domain, Sign in with a passkey opens yourtekstacks.comaddress for the passkey and brings you back signed in.
Note: A domain someone set up but never verified is released after seven days, so another account can claim it.
Troubleshooting
"Use a subdomain such as assets.yourcompany.com. The bare domain cannot point at another host." Enter a name with a part before your domain.
"That hostname is already in use." Another TekStacks account has it.
Still Waiting for DNS after an hour. Read the message under the records: it says what the last check found. DNS changes can take a while to spread. Check that the names match exactly, without your domain added twice.
FAQ
How do I change to a different domain? Click Remove domain and confirm. It stops working at once; your TekStacks address keeps working. Then set up the new one.
Do I need to buy or upload a certificate? No. It is issued and renewed automatically once the DNS records check out.
