One list of devices shared by every company on TekStacks: makes, models, rack sizes, ports and power. Type a model on the equipment form and its details fill themselves.

Overview

Open the library from the sidebar under Resources, Device library. It has three pages:

  • All devices: the whole library, plus the devices your company added for itself.
  • New devices: devices that joined the library in the last 30 days, newest first.
  • Your submissions: devices your company offered to the library. See Library submissions.

Each row shows the Make, Model, Type, Height in rack units (or "Not racked"), a summary of its Ports, and its Status.

StatusMeaning
CommunityIn the library, not yet verified by three companies. The row shows how many have verified it, such as "1 of 3 companies".
VerifiedThree different companies confirmed its details are correct.
Your company'sAdded by your company and seen only by your company.
Waiting for a ManagerSubmitted by someone at your company and waiting for a Manager to approve it.
Waiting for TekStacksApproved at your company and waiting for TekStacks support to review it.
Turned downNot accepted, with the reason below.

"Fix suggested" under the status means another company has suggested a correction. See Verifying and suggesting fixes.

Requirements

  • Role: anyone who signs in can browse the library. Adding a device needs Add equipment; verifying and suggesting fixes need Edit equipment.

Finding a device

  1. Type in Search makes and models. Spaces and punctuation in model names are ignored, so "r740" finds the PowerEdge R740.
  2. Narrow the list with the filters:
    • Type, such as switch, server or firewall.
    • Make.
    • Added by your company: Only yours or Only the library.
    • Status: Verified or Community.

Using the library when you add equipment

On the equipment form, pick the make and type and start typing the Model. TekStacks suggests matching models from the library, and a box asks "Is this a" followed by the device, with its details.

  • Click Use these details to fill in the details from the library. A device with ports has them laid out when you save.
  • Click No to skip a suggestion, or Not this one to drop a device you picked.

The equipment page then shows Device library with the entry, whether it is Verified or Community, and its front faceplate when one is shown. The same faceplates appear on your rack drawings. See Adding equipment and Racks.

Notes

Note: No company sees which other companies added, verified or suggested anything, only how many did.
