Appearance
See every location and the circuits between them on one page: as a schematic you arrange yourself, or on a street map placed by address. The map is drawn from your circuit records each time, so it never falls out of date.
Overview
Open Infrastructure, then Circuit map, or click Circuit map on the Circuits page.
- Every location with a circuit is a box. A data center or colocation site is a location too.
- Every internet circuit runs from its location to one Internet cloud.
- Each circuit is a line between its two ends, colored by kind: Internet, MPLS, Point to point, Dark fiber or Other.
- The status shows in the line: Active is solid, Planned is dashed, Disconnected is red with a cross.
Because status shows as style, a proposal is just records. Add the new circuits as Planned and set the ones going away to Disconnected, and the map shows the change, ready to print or put on a slide.
Hover a line to see its provider, kind, speed, circuit ID, ends and status. Click it to open the circuit.
Requirements
- Role: to see the map, See VLANs, subnets and addresses (every built in role by default). To move locations on the schematic or reset its layout, Add, edit and delete VLANs, subnets and addresses (Admin, Manager and Technician by default).
Filter the map
Above the map, choose a Provider, a Kind or a Status to show only those circuits, such as one provider's lines or everything still planned. Locations with no circuit left in view are hidden while a filter is on. Choose Every provider, Every kind and Every status to see everything again.
Arrange the schematic
The first time, TekStacks lays the map out for you, with the Internet at the top.
- Drag a location to where you want it. It stays there for everyone in your company (in each client, if you manage clients), the next time too.
- Keep going until the map looks the way you picture the network.
To start over, click Reset layout and confirm. Every location goes back to the automatic layout, for everyone.
A location added later is placed automatically; drag it where it belongs.
Export the schematic
Click Export PNG or Export SVG. You get the map as it is on screen, with the legend underneath, on a white background for printing. SVG stays sharp at any size and opens in most drawing and presentation tools.
The street map
Click Street map to see the same locations on a real map, placed by their address, with the circuits between them drawn the same way. Zoom and pan as in any map; the map follows your light or dark theme.
- Click a location to see its address and every circuit at it, including its internet circuits (they have no far end to draw on a street map), with links to each.
- Click a line to open the circuit.
TekStacks looks up each location's address when it is saved or changed, and keeps the result. A location it cannot place is listed beside the map under Not placed, with the reason:
- No address: add a street or city to the location (see Locations).
- Address not found: check the address for typos and save it again.
- Looking up the address: just saved; reload in a minute.
Notes
Note: The map shows one client at a time. If you manage clients and are viewing all of them, choose a client at the top of the page.
Note: A circuit needs a location at both ends to be drawn (an internet circuit needs one). Others are listed beside the map under Not drawn. An end recorded as a piece of equipment counts as that equipment's location.
Troubleshooting
I cannot drag the locations. Moving them needs Add, edit and delete VLANs, subnets and addresses. Without it you see the layout others have made.
A circuit is missing from the map. Check that both its ends are at a location, and that no filter is hiding it. Circuits that are not drawn are listed beside the map with the reason.
A location is in the wrong place on the street map. The address is probably incomplete or ambiguous. Add the city, state and postal code on the location's page and save; it is looked up again.
