Sign in with your fingerprint, face, screen lock or a security key. No password, and no code.

Overview

A passkey is stored on your device or in your password manager. Signing in with one needs no password and no second step, and it cannot be used on a fake sign in page. Add one for each device you use, and remove any you no longer have.

Requirements

  • Your own TekStacks user. Every role can add passkeys.
  • A browser that supports passkeys.

Step 1: Add a passkey

  1. Click your name at the top right, then Profile and security.
  2. Under Passkeys, click Add a passkey.
  3. Confirm your password when asked.
  4. In Add a passkey, give it a Name you will recognize, such as "Work laptop", "iPhone" or "1Password".
  5. Click Create passkey and follow your browser's prompt.

You see Passkey added. You can sign in with it now. and get an email about it.

Step 2: Sign in with it

  1. Open your company's sign in page.
  2. Click Sign in with a passkey and use your fingerprint, face, screen lock or security key.

Removing a passkey

Under Passkeys, click Remove beside it and confirm. It stops working at once. Remove it from your device or password manager as well if you no longer want it there.

Notes

Note: Passkeys belong to your tekstacks.com address. If your company uses its own domain, Sign in with a passkey opens your tekstacks.com address for the passkey and brings you back signed in. To add a passkey, use Profile and security at your tekstacks.com address; the page links to it.

Note: If your company made Microsoft the only way in, passkeys do not sign you in. Admins still use a passkey for break glass recovery (see Sign in with Microsoft).

Troubleshooting

"That passkey was not recognized. It may have been removed from your account." The passkey was removed, or it belongs to a different company's account. Sign in with your password and add a new one.

"This browser does not support passkeys." Use an up to date browser that supports passkeys, or sign in with your password.

"The passkey request expired. Please try again." The browser prompt was open too long. Click Sign in with a passkey again.

FAQ

What if I lose the device my passkey is on? Remove that passkey from Profile and security on another device. If you cannot sign in at all, ask an Admin to use Reset sign in on your user under Users.
