Appearance
Record each VLAN with its number, what it is for and where it lives, then see the subnets on it and every port that carries it.
Overview
The VLANs page lists each VLAN with its Number, Name and description, its Location (or Spans sites), how many Subnets use it, and how many Ports carry it. Filter by Location.
Requirements
- Role: to see VLANs, See VLANs, subnets and addresses (every built in role by default). To add, edit and delete them, Add, edit and delete VLANs, subnets and addresses (Admin, Manager and Technician by default).
Add a VLAN
- Open Network, then VLANs, and click Add VLAN.
- Enter the Number (1 to 4094) and a Name.
- Choose a Location, or leave it empty for a VLAN that spans sites.
- Add a Description if you like, and save.
See the ports carrying a VLAN
Click the ports button on a VLAN's row (Ports carrying it). The list shows each device and port, and whether the port carries the VLAN Untagged, as the Native VLAN of a trunk, or Tagged. Trunks set to tag every VLAN appear here as Tagged (all VLANs).
A port's VLANs are set on its device's port map (see Switch ports).
Edit or delete a VLAN
Use the edit and delete buttons on the VLAN's row. Deleting a VLAN keeps the subnets on it, without a VLAN. The activity log keeps its history.
Notes
Note: The same VLAN number can be used at different locations. Within one location, each number is used once.
Note: If you manage clients, each client has its own VLANs, and Add VLAN appears only while you work in one client.
Troubleshooting
"That VLAN number is already used at this location." Another VLAN at the same location has that number. Edit the existing one, or choose a different location.
"No port records this VLAN yet." Open a switch's port map and set the VLAN on its ports.
