Every piece of equipment keeps a timeline of who had it, where it was and what changed. Snapshots mean the past never rewrites itself when someone is renamed or moves.

Overview

The History panel on each equipment page lists, newest first:

  • Changes of hands and status: "Assigned to" an employee, a check in, or a status change such as in repair, with the location and room at the time. Each entry shows the note, the accessories that went with it, and any that were "Not returned".
  • Edits to the equipment's details: "Changed", with each field's old and new value, such as "Model: OptiPlex 7010 to OptiPlex 7020" or "Condition: Good to Damaged". Fields your company hides are left out.
  • Disposal: "Disposed:" with the method, when the equipment is retired for good.

Each entry shows when it happened and who did it.

Requirements

  • Role: See equipment shows the whole history, edits included. All four built in roles have it.

How snapshots work

Each change of hands closes the current holding and opens a new one. TekStacks stores a copy of the employee (name, email, job title, department and location), the location and room, and the equipment's own details as they were at that moment. If an employee changes their name or department later, the history still shows them as they were when they held the equipment.

Seeing old and new values

Each "Changed" entry lists the old and new value of every field that changed. The Activity log has the same changes for every kind of record, with the IP address, for Admins.

Other places history shows

  • Employee pages: Has now lists what the employee holds today, and Had before lists what they held, with the dates and anything that went missing. See Employees.
  • Changes: an equipment page lists the change records that touched it. See Change management.

FAQ

Can history be edited or deleted? No. History entries are written by TekStacks as things happen and cannot be changed from the app.

Is history kept after disposal? Yes. Disposing of equipment closes its last holding and keeps everything before it.
