Appearance
Design asset labels for your own label stock and printer: the size, a QR code or Code 128 barcode, and which lines print. The default template is used whenever someone prints a label.
Overview
Without templates, everyone prints the Standard 2.25 x 1.25 inch label (see Labels and QR codes). A template sets:
- Size: common stock such as 1.75 x 0.75 in, 2 x 1 in, 2 1/8 x 1 in (DYMO, 25 x 54 mm), 2.25 x 1.25 in, 3 x 1 in or 1 x 1 in, or Another size with your own width and height.
- Printer resolution: 203, 300 or 600 dpi, used for ZPL output.
- Code: Barcode (Code 128), QR code, or Both. Every USB scanner reads a barcode; phones read a QR code, which opens the equipment.
- Lines, besides the tag: any of Company logo, from Settings, Property of, with the company name, Type, Make and model, Serial number, Name or hostname, Your own text, and Managed by, with your company name (client equipment only).
Every template prints as a PDF for any printer, or as ZPL for Zebra printers with the barcode drawn on exact printer dots.
Requirements
- Role: Manage tag series. Admin and Manager have it by default.
Step 1: Add a template
- In the sidebar, open Configure, then Label templates.
- Click Add template.
- Give it a Name, such as the printer and stock it is for.
- Pick the Size, or Another size and enter the Width and Height in inches.
- Set the Printer resolution to match your printer.
- Pick the Code.
- Tick the Lines, besides the tag you want. If you tick Your own text, type it, such as your help desk's phone number.
- Turn on Use by default to make it the template Print label uses.
- Save.
TekStacks confirms with Template added.
Step 2: Preview it
Click the eye icon on the template's row. TekStacks opens the label as a PDF in a new tab, using one of your tagged pieces of equipment as the sample. Previewing marks nothing printed.
Changing or removing a template
- Click the pencil icon to edit a template.
- Click the trash icon to delete one. Labels already printed are not affected. If you delete the default, the oldest remaining template becomes the default.
Notes
Note: The first template you add becomes the default, and there is always exactly one default.
Note: Company logo, from Settings prints the logo uploaded under Settings, General. Without a logo, nothing prints on that line. See Company settings.
Note: Thermal transfer printers on polyester stock with a resin ribbon make labels that last for years.
