Record each internet line, MPLS link, point to point and dark fiber run: who provides it, both ends, what it lands on, and who to call when it is down.

Overview

The Circuits page lists each circuit with its Provider and circuit ID, its kind and speed, From and to, its Status and Monthly cost. Active circuits come first. Filter by Status, Kind or Location.

A circuit's page shows its Ends (each location and the equipment it lands on) and its Provider details: circuit ID, support phone, account number, monthly cost and install date.

Circuits also appear on the equipment they land on (Circuits landing here), on their locations' pages, and in the location diagram (see Locations and rooms). A port can connect straight to a circuit (see Cables and patch panels).

Requirements

  • Role: to see circuits, See VLANs, subnets and addresses (every built in role by default). To add, edit and delete them, Add, edit and delete VLANs, subnets and addresses (Admin, Manager and Technician by default).

Add a circuit

The provider comes from your vendors, so add it under Vendors first if it is not there.

  1. Open Network, then Circuits, and click Add circuit.
  2. Choose the Provider, the Kind (Internet, MPLS, Point to point, Dark fiber or Other) and the Status (Active, Planned or Disconnected).
  3. Enter the provider's Circuit ID, the Speed (such as 1 Gbps / 1 Gbps) and the Installed date if you know them.
  4. Under A end, choose the Location and the Equipment it lands on, such as a firewall, router or switch.
  5. Under Z end, do the same. For an internet circuit, leave the location empty and the Z end shows the provider's name.
  6. Optionally enter the Support phone (empty uses the provider's), Account number, Monthly cost and Notes.
  7. Save.

Notes

Note: Delete a circuit only if it was never real. Set a canceled circuit to Disconnected instead, so its history stays useful. The activity log keeps the history either way.

Note: If you manage clients, each client has its own circuits, and Add circuit appears only while you work in one client.

Troubleshooting

The provider I need is not in the list. Providers come from your vendors. Add it under Configure, Vendors, then add the circuit.

The circuit does not show in the location diagram. Disconnected circuits are left out of the diagram. Check its Status, and that one of its ends is at that location.
